Your Roof Should Not Cause Nightmares

Picture of Deteriorating Roof

When Halloween comes around your roof does more than protect your home from weather changes—it becomes the display for your favorite spooky decorations. However, before you climb onto your roof to secure that big blow-up spider you just purchased, you must know that your structure is safe for you to do so.

But how can you tell? That’s what we here at Pro Proofing NW are for! Today, we are diving into the signs that your roof needs repairs or replacement! So, if you notice any of the following, hold off on the scary decor until your roof is no longer contributing to any Halloween nightmares:

Signs Your Roof Needs Repairs

Loose Tile And Shingles

If your roof has missing or damaged tiles or shingles, your protective barrier has been breached. This puts your home in jeopardy of water damage, as your water-tight seal is no longer ironclad. So, how do your tiles and shingles get separated? Wind, storms, or poor installation can all lead to cracks in your roof, fallen tiles, or unsecured shingles. You’ll want to get this repaired as soon as possible to prevent any damage to the structure of your home.

Leaks And Holes

If you notice that you have water spots on the inside of your home or that your walls have bubbling or puffy sections, it is time to check your roof for water damage. If you have a hole in your roof, water will begin to compromise the interior of your home. This can lead to serious structural damage, so do not let this go unresolved.

Inadequate Sealing

Flashing must be applied where you have any windows, ventilation ports, or chimneys in your roofing. Otherwise, these areas won’t be water-tight. Apart from ensuring it is secured properly during installation, you must check on your flashing periodically to make sure it has not deteriorated. Maintenance on your roof is just as important and imperative as the maintenance you perform on your car.

Pooling Water

If your roofing has indentations or sinking parts, water can being to pool in these areas. Standing water on your roof is not a good thing. As water builds-up, your roof can begin to collapse due to the extra weight and pressure the water is applying. Don’t let water break down your roofing—contact your local roofing company.

Fallen Branches

If you have had a branch fall onto your roof recently, you must check it for damages. Overtime this is bound to happen, so just keep an eye out for natural wear and tear.

Indicators Your Roof Needs Replacing

The Age Of Your Roof

Check the date of installation on your roof! If your roof is between 25 and 30 years old, it may be time for a replacement. Wear and tear over the course of this period will take a toll on your roof and it will be more cost-effective to replace your roof than continuing to administer repairs.

Discoloration Is Widespread

When your roof has widespread discoloration, you may have mold. Many types of mold are toxic and if these particles were to make their way into your home through your roof, you and your family could begin to experience health implications. If mold has taken over your roof, it is time for a new one!

Curling Shingles

Seeing deformed shingles throughout your entire roof? This is a sure sign it is time for a replacement. If only a few of your roofing tiles are affected, replacing the few should do the trick; however, if you have overall damage—it is time for an upgrade.
